We make this Wood Balm (also called wax, conditioner or butter) with natural beeswax from our own hives combined with food-safe mineral oil, and we use it to condition all our Spurtles, wooden spoons, bowls, chopping and cutting boards (as well any other wooden products in the kitchen that come into contact with food).

We collect the wax from the honeycomb built by our bees once a year when we extract any surplus honey they have made for us. We then render the remaining wax down and filter it several times until we have pure wax, which we then melt and combine with food grade mineral oil and set in our resealable aluminium tins.

The Wood Balm can be applied with cloth, kitchen paper or fingers. It should be rubbed into the wood and left for an hour or so until absorbed, and then any surplus buffed off with some kitchen paper. The balm can be reapplied in the future when the wood begins to lighten and looks in need of some nourishment.

We use 60ml (2oz) tins with at least 50ml (1.7oz) of wood balm in each tin. The tins measure 6.5 x 2.5cm. The listed price is for an individual tin of wood balm.

The photos show examples of the Wood Balm in the gold or silver tins we use (same contents), some examples of our own woodwork being treated, and an example frame of wax comb from our hardworking bees.
